W7FTT: James W. Young, Amateur Extra Class
Brief History of W7FTT
Born January 24, 1941 in Portland, Oregon. First Licensed as WN7FTT in 1956.
Professional Astronomer with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1962 (41 years) at the Table Mountain Observatory (TMO) located at the Table Mountain Facility (TMF). My main responsibilities include the Chief Resident Astronomer for the 0.6 Meter Telescope, the Astronomy Team Leader for TMO, maintaining the mirror coating facilities, and all CCD Camera vacuum requirements.
I was an official observer for the 2-Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), a joint effort with the University of Massachusetts (UMASS) and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). I then carried out many observations at the Fred L. Whipple Observatory (FLWO) at Mt. Hopkins south of Tucson, Arizona, for one week every other month, as required, from 1998 - 2000. UMASS sent me to Cerro Tololo Observatory in Chile in June, 2000 to help with the needed southern sky survey part of the 2MASS project.
